For Her Children
The panther lounges, warm in the sun. Her mate lazily caresses her shoulder. Peace, calm, quiet. Gentle breathing. But if you know her, you know the power lying behind her tranquil eyes.
A noise. Those eyes flash. She knows her cubs are nearby and there are predators to consider. Alert, she leaves her resting place and joins the jungle. She catches a scent that brings a low growl.
Circling her cubs, she approaches the intruder from the downwind side. He is unaware of her presence, focused on her cubs. She lies in the undergrowth, carefully evaluating the threat. She is still undecided until he moves suddenly. It is over so quickly. He may not have even known his silent assassin. A blinding rush, one swipe disembowels him. As he looks down in surprise, another blow decapitates him. Just to be sure.
You can’t be too careful when you are protecting your children.
